Noctivid sits at the top of Leica's binocular range. Twelve lens elements of SCHOTT HT high-transmission glass and plasma-deposited coatings, balanced across the visible spectrum, give a bright, neutral view with real depth, from first light to last.

Premium all-rounder

Ultravid HD-Plus

Made in Germany, and light enough to carry through a whole day of discovery.

Fluoride lenses and SCHOTT HT prism glass for faithful colour, in a magnesium chassis with a titanium hinge axle. Focus runs from close up to infinity in under two turns, and the housing is submersible to 5 m (16.4 ft).

Best for One binocular for travel, hiking and the hunt, with the widest choice of sizes.

Rugged, reliable, and the way into Leica glass.

The Trinovid name stands for three innovations: ergonomics, true internal focusing and optical performance. A Trinovid flew on Apollo 11. The HD models add AquaDura coatings. The 42 mm models are fully rubber-armoured, and the 32 mm models are sized for travel.

The 1960s Leitz Trinovid, reborn.

A slim tribute to the original Leitz Trinovid, with black leather covering over a light aluminium housing. It is weatherproof and splash-proof but not waterproof, and made for the city, the concert hall and the collector's shelf.

Best for Collectors, and anyone who wants a binocular with the feel of a Leica M.

Buyer's Guide

How to Read 8x42

Four numbers tell you most of what a binocular will do.

Every Leica binocular, scope and rangefinder is described by the same few numbers. Once you can read them, a spec sheet becomes a quick answer to where and when a model will shine.

Magnification × objective. 8x42 means the view is eight times closer, through front lenses 42 mm across. More magnification brings more reach but a narrower view, and it shows more hand shake.
Exit pupil. The objective divided by the magnification: 42 ÷ 8 = 5.25 mm. The larger the exit pupil, the brighter the image at dawn and dusk. The 7 mm of an 8x56 reaches into deep twilight.
Twilight factor. The square root of magnification × objective, as Leica prints it on every data sheet. The higher the number, the more detail you can make out in low light: 18.3 for an 8x42, 20.5 for a 10x42.
Field of view. How wide a scene you see, given as feet at 1,000 yards. Lower magnification means a wider view, which makes it easier to find a bird and follow it.

10-Year Passport Protection. Leica repairs or replaces a sport optics product damaged or defective within ten years, no matter how it happened, at no charge. The plan transfers with the product.
30-year optics warranty. Leica's manufacturer's warranty on the optical system runs for thirty years.
Authorized dealer only. The North American programme covers products first bought from an authorized Leica dealer or Leica Store, which Leica Store San Francisco is.
