A Living Legend, Reinterpreted

This is Leica's contemporary reinterpretation of the legendary 1966 Noctilux-M 50mm f/1.2, one of the most famous lenses ever made for the M-System and the world's first serially produced lens to feature two aspherical elements. The original optical calculation has been retained with only minimal changes, carefully adapted to today's glass types and production methods, so you get that unmistakable vintage character with modern manufacturing precision.

The Signature f/1.2 Rendering

Wide open at f/1.2, this lens delivers an extremely shallow depth of field, soft transitions, and a characteristic, exquisite bokeh that lends images a soft, almost dreamlike, impressionistic quality with exceptional subject separation. Stop it down slightly and it snaps to an impressively sharp rendition, making it a genuinely usable lens for everyday shooting rather than a one-trick showpiece.

Faithful Optical Design

The optical design comprises six lenses in four groups, including two aspherical elements that reduce spherical aberration at maximum aperture for an exceptionally balanced image effect. Color rendering is natural and vignetting is well controlled even at open aperture. A 16-blade aperture with half-increment lock settings gives you precise, tactile control over exposure and rendering.

Glossy Black Paint Craftsmanship

This edition wears a glossy black paint finish over the proven series design, complete with elegant classic details, including a red distance scale for feet and a round lens hood also finished in glossy black paint, to complete the timeless Leica look. It mounts via the Leica M bayonet with 6-bit encoding for lens recognition and ships in packaging inspired by the original, with a classically inspired transparent lens container.
