Apochromatic Reference-Class Optics

Twelve complex lens elements in ten groups, three featuring aspherical surfaces, deliver the ultimate in image quality even at maximum aperture. Because Leica designs the maximum aperture as a true working aperture, stopping down becomes a purely creative choice rather than a necessity for sharpness. Expect natural skin tones, soft transitions into the bokeh, outstanding micro-contrast, and consistent edge-to-edge sharpness across distortion-free images.

Fast, Precise Dual Syncro Drive Autofocus

The autofocus employs powerful, robust stepping motors with DSD (Dual Syncro Drive), traveling the entire focusing throw in roughly 250 milliseconds. Focusing is both quick and quiet, keeping you responsive to fleeting moments without drawing attention on the street or in the studio.

Innovative Manual Focusing

Summicron-SL lenses introduce a completely new manual focusing ring concept. A ring magnet with alternating polarization is embedded in the focus ring; as you turn it, a sensor reads the changing magnetic field and relays the angle and speed of rotation to the main processor, which drives the lens to the exact focus position. The result is faster, more precise manual focusing.

Built for Everyday and Extreme Use

Precision-made in Germany, the lens features a weather-sealed all-metal housing. High-quality coatings and optimized frame geometry suppress reflections and stray light, while an AquaDura coating provides dust and spray protection so you can shoot with confidence in demanding, everyday conditions.
